Anyone have a recommendation for a good book on the 1911? I'm interested in troubleshooting mainly. I don't mind spending a decent amount of money but I don't want to buy five books to find what I want.

Thanks

I have two books written by Patrick Sweeney, The Book of 1911 published by the Gun Digest. The 2nd book is a waste of time if you have the first book. He gives no bad reviews of guns. There isn't a lot of troubleshooting info in the book. The books are mainly about higher end 1911s. Worth while read, for the information, but it is mainly a 1911 guy talking to 1911 people kind of deal.

If you want a purely technical book of the 1911,the classic is jerry Kuhnhausen "The Colt 45 auto,a shop manual".This is the go to technical reference. There are 2 volumes to this and both are worth getting. These have a wealth of info into how the 1911 works etc

If your looking for a enjoyable read with great pictures,Patrick Sweeneys "1911,the first 100 years"can be recommended

The Kuhnhausen books are good, as others have said but much of it is geared towards advanced smithing. I also found this reference guide pretty handy when I was first trying to learn some basics about the pistol. Its kind of an "Idiot's Guide" to 1911's. No disrespect to the army or any other person who wants to learn, its just a field level reference aimed at people who aren't gunsmiths.

I was disappointed with the Sweeney books I've seen, lots of pretty pictures but not much beyond that.

Is that still available? Where would I find it?

Kuhnhausen books (there are 2) are good, but quite boring to read (they are a technical reference).

I have enjoyed all 3 of Sweeney books, especially the 1st Gun Digest and the First 100 years.
