The wife is thinking that the next purchase should be a .22 revolver. I'm kinda agreeing with that - anything .22 is going to get used a lot - the only
.22 handgun I have right now is a half-price Norinco M-93 (it sure was cheap and is fun, but awfully finicky with ammo).

Had a S&W .22 Masterpiece years ago and traded it before I knew what I was doing, gun-wise. Anybody here with experience w/Taurus revolvers (new) or readily available used .22 wheelguns?

.22 WheelGuns

I've got a Taurus Tracker .22 , 61/2" Barrel , seven shot in Stainless. I bought it off of a CGNer last year , I mounted a red dot sight and it shoots like a dream , single action trigger pull is light and crisp and very accurate!:)

It sounds as though you are leaning towards a double action design, but if single action revolvers are on the list for consideration, you sure can't go wrong with a Ruger Single six.

Had a Ruger Single Six (w/.22Mag cylinder). Didn't care for the trigger, the Mags weren't worth the extra expense. Double action for us :)

S&W Model 17 with 6" barrel if you are not 12(6) grandfathered. Otherwise a K frame Model 18 with the 4" barrel or a Model 63 4" on the little "J" frame is a nice handling .22 wheelgun, especially for a lady if she has hands on the smallish side.

I love my Ruger Single Six it was my first handgun and the extra magnum cylinder makes it fun to shoot once in awhile but the 22mags are more expensive. The gun is super and shoots really well with the target sights. Plus is has the Cowboy look that I really like!

I like J frame 22s for kids and such, NAA, but thier triggers need a lot of work (at least in DA, SA they are usually pretty good though). For small hands and a great trigger, get a Diamondback, and replace the grips with a set for a Detective Special. Actually, now that I think of it, any of the short grip Colt D frames will work for that, but Diamondbacks are probably a little easier to find (I haven't seen too many Police Positives in 22 recently). - dan

Not to hijack (still on topic) but what do people think about the older K-22 (model 17s) vs the new 617?

I think the older guns appeal more to my style but how do the triggers and accuracy compare?

Good info Dan, and I don't necessarily disagree, but out this way at least, S&W .22 wheelguns seem to be more plentiful/available than Colt .22 wheelguns. Plus MD Charlton is right in our backyard, another good reason to go S&W............

I have an H&R top break, double action 9 shot revolver. They're great guns, but no longer made. They're also not that expensive if you can find one.

This one is similar to mine

True as well. and as they don't make the Colts anymore, S&W pretty much wins by default. - dan
