I'm sure this has been asked before but I haven't had time to search all the threads. Can you guys suggest the best 9mm semi-auto? I was thinking the 1911, beretta 92 series, a sig, or a glock. I want accuracy over stopping power just FYI. Thanks in advance!

Well thats a difficult question to answer, firearms are very unique to the individual. Something that works with one individual may not work well with another. Im relatively new to the whole shooting thing but I have tried most of these pistols on the range. I personally prefer the glock fits my hand good put a 5.5 trigger spring on it shoots accurate, easy to clean and never had an issue with it in my month of shooting it, not to mention it has a nice price tag.

Found the berreta had a really long trigger pull on it and jammed a few times on me. Sig has a smooth trigger on it and nice sights but it is a little more pricey. Haven't shot any 1911 in 9mm only in 40. and 45. so cant really say.

Thanks for the info guys. How do you like the 1911 in .45 Nosferatu? I know that's a big jump from a 9mm though.

1911 is a tried tested and true platform it's been used in 2 world wars korea vietnam and is still used by many SWAT, SF teams today. It has good balance and with the weight of all the steel the recoil isn't to bad even shooting 45. But from my experience you need to break them in which takes awhile and need to be cleaned often to get the most out of them. They also tend to carry a pretty hefty price tag for a good one, not to mention the ammo cost to shoot it. As much as I love the 1911 i think if #### hit the fan id choose my Glock 22 more. But what do I know?

9mm is no more accurate than .40 or .45. Jus FYI.

P.S. I second Soli's suggestion regarding HK USP.

Have a look at this thread I did awhile back:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175105

Out of these 6, the SIG is the clear winner in my mind - with the USP coming in a somewhat distant second due to an inferior trigger and a frame that (like all polymer guns) is really too light for its own good. Since we can't carry the guns in this country anyway, I have come around to the view that "light weight" is actually a bad thing. Your follow-up shots will thank you when you shoot a heavier gun.

I have been a fan/booster/devotee of every gun in this thread at one time or another - and I still like them all and shoot them all, but SIG really is in a class by itself among the guns I reviewed in my thread. I would like to get more trigger time on some of the various CZ-75 type guns. That might be the only thing out there giving SIG a run for its money.

It's very hard to settle on a first 9mm pistol. I had to make that choice a week ago when I bought my CZ-85 Combat. I had the chance to test a few others models including Baby Eagle, Beretta 92, Taurus PT99, CZ-75 and my search lasted for a month.

I can't claim to know more about guns than 80% of the fellow members here but I considered a lot of thing in my purchase.

Reliability, Precision, Price and feeling. Plus I had good members at my local shooting range that had experience with a lot of pistols.

CZ-85 was made for me.

It's very important that you also base your choice on the use that you want to put on that gun. Is it for IPSC, casual fun shooting or precision shooting?

Then some pistols might be better than others regarding the particular use that you want to make of them.

Like a few of the other guys have said, the CZ 75 / 85 models are worth taking a look at. They are known for good accuracy and reliability at a reasonable cost.

The best gun is the one that fits your hand, and that you can shoot accurately. Try as many as you can and find the one that fits your hand. The fixed barrel guns are inherently more accurate than any of the guns that use an action in which the barrel moves, but almost any pistol from an established, reputable maker will shoot more accurately than you can. Find one that fits your hand.

Like MTF says, a fixed barrel is theoretically more accurate, but there are very few choices in those currently made. A 1911 style with a barrel bushing can be accurized more than some of the others without this design. I settled on the Grand Power K100 because the rotating barrel design is fitted a lot tighter at the muzzle end, traded in my CZ75. because I was unhappy with the accuracy. Having said that there are guys who rave about their CZ75b's.
I could only realize best accuracy with my K100 with jacketed bullets, but some guys claim good results with lead, so maybe the lead bullets I had were too soft. Best thing is to try some different guns before buying. Most handgun owners will help a guy contemplating a purchase.

Well I would recommend the USP in 9mm or the glock 17 both of with are great guns. Very reliable, good accuracy and easy to maintain.
If you have the money you should get an HK P7M8 before they are all gone :D

From CZs, get CZ 75 SP-01 tactical.

The best of all CZ, even the latest shadow model does not match
SP-01, shadow has crisp, light trigger but crappy sights.

Sig P226 in 9mm. Lose the factory mags meant for 9 and a half rounds and get Mec-Gar stainless 10 round mags. Sometimes there are Sigs in the EE for a decent price. Here's one (not mine, just saw the ad)

Can't speak for the other regular brands and I'm sure they are good but my Sig is very accurate and easy to field strip and clean. Parts and holsters etc are readily available as it is stocked on a regular basis in many shops. I also put on some fibre optic sights i got through The Shooting Edge.

Well lets see
CZ, Glock, Smith, colt,Springfield, HK PSP's are coming.. Choices are endless...

There are so many of these "BEST" threads but most of the folks asking don't say what they are planning to do with the gun....

Best is relative to form, function and shooter....
  • big hands will not like the same gun as a person will small hands....
  • You don't want a heel release gun for action sports (IDPA and IPSC)

I started with a 45 the nines have come for other reasons...
