recommended load data for 50 cal please

I just purchased a cva express double in 50 cal. If anyone has one of these a load that works well would be appreciated. I intend to use about 90 to 100 grain with a 295 miniball. I have also read good report on paper patching this load but reducing the charge a little. Any good feedback is appreciated. Round ball load I assume should be around 70 to 80 grains with pyrodex rs or triple seven. I may even use good old ffg and enjoy the smell. Thanks in advance for the help
 
For sure FFF , I would work up from 60 grains, not like you gotta sit home and make up loads, its a range thing, go up in 5 grain increments till you get a good load, can even break it down farther when in the ballpark of accuracy.

thanks Frank. It sound like we are on the same page. I have a TC Hawkin and very little experience in this smoke pole stuff. This new double I have is a little different beast then the Hawkin. It should be a allot of fun though.

My .50 (a TC Hawken flint lock) likes 90 grains of FFFG behind a TC Maxi-Ball and TC bore butter. It'll also shoot 100 grains pretty good, but seems to be a bit more accurate with 90.

I understand that you have to be a bit more careful with the double rifles since reloading after one shot means that you are working over (the other) loaded barrel. So, remember to take the cap off if you're topping up after one shot.

I've heard that too - but in regard to muzzle-loading shotguns. I think that what you want to avoid is your bullet/shot moving forward during recoil. With a tight patch or Maxi ball it might not be an issue.
 
I will indeed. I have always thought about 80 t0 90 grains in 45 and 50 was about right. this double is a different beast though. It has rained non stop since I purchased the gun I can hardly wait to try out the load that have been recommened and report back
