Recommended reading for a beginner?

I was in the same position as you, OP.
I have bought and read:
Lyman 49th
ABCs of reloading
Lee's 2nd
Noslers
To me, the Lyman was by far the most easily understood, instructive, step by step guide.
The Lee manual was horrible. It read like a commercial and doesn't actually explain the whole process. It's an old man justifying his inventions and trying to sell them.
ABCs is actually a very informative and technically detailed book. The problem is that I don't think it's nearly as accessible as the Lyman manual. Again, it really lacked the flow that teaches you in laymans terms how to handload. It will have you reading about waxing your hand made bullets before it finishes teaching you how to load a round from beginning to end. Contrary to popular opinion, I would not recommend this book as a first read.
Pick up the Lyman 49th. You'll be happy you did!
P.S. The ABCs says that the author lost his hands while attempting to make a 'home made explosive device'. It does NOT say he lost his hands reloading.
