Guys,
Awaiting some answers from Berger but I thought I would seek some advices from my fellow gunnutz. I recently had a new rifle built in 300 WSM and I'm using the 168 gr. VLD Hunting bullets from Berger. My experience with this bullets in my other rifles is they work best with about 0.007" to 0.010" into the rifling just as Berger recommends. I would like to know what you recommend for reamers for this application and VLD bullets? Also, what about reamer that gives you a "free bore" where the lands are cut way deep down"? That's what I currently have as for chamber and I'm not so impressed with accuracy considering the quality of this built.

Cheers!

The standard info I give to customers: Seat a bullet in the case with the start of the boattail (the bit that is up about .100 on the bullet) at the bottom of the neck. This will give you the most useful barrel life without overly reducing the powder capacity. Send the dummy to JGS. Relax until your new reamer comes. Only JGS, only live pilot and never carbide. If you have a friend that wants to build the same you can share your reamer costs. Jamming into the lands will shoot the best but don't do that with a hunting gun in case you stick a bullet in the throat in the bush with no rod handy.

VLD Bullets

Just a little heads up F class guys are gone away from VLD bullets and Berger is discontinuing a lot of VLDs

Go with the Hybrids

200 gr Match Hybrid Target .308 200 0.624 0.320 11 30427
210 gr Match Long Range BT Target .308 210 0.626 0.320 11 30419

215 gr Match Hybrid Target .308 215 0.696 0.356 10 30429
230 gr Match Hybrid Target .308 230 0.743 0.380 10 30430

Take three FL re-sized new brass, neck turn them to a clean cut app 001 to 002 max.
seat bullet you choose to go with, to base of bullet and boat tail below junction of neck shoulder point.

Send cases to JGS

These guys specs will match your reamer I have found no other reamer makers match there specs just wasting your money.

So if I understand correctly, the boat tail part (chamfered part of the bullet) need to be past the bottom of the neck? JGS? I'm not a gunsmith so I don't who that is...

338x, yes "the boat tail part (chamfered part of the bullet) need to be past the bottom of the neck? "

Henrickson apparently makes outstanding reamers and I have used a few. If you are not old and grey now you will be once you get a reamer from him...........long waits.

Ok for JGS, thanks Manitou 210. I'm using a lightweight 168 VLD, those listed are very heavy for my application...

I have tested the 168 gr VLD in my .308 win, the work just okay the 168 gr Hybrids will out shoot the VLDs best I could get a 100 y with VLD was 1/2" the hybrids in 1s and 3s and at 300y really shows up the vlds
