Recommended SKS Mods ???

Took my SKS into Lever, the gunsmith tried and said:"Hmm that's tight" took into the back and came out a while later and said that the post was binding against the trigger group and needed a little filing. I will finish cleaning it this week and then I will be ready to shoot.

Do not get a collapsable stock. Junk junk junk. Looks nice but the stock moves on you, good luck hitting anything. The guy ahead of me had one. Might as well throw the rifle at the target.
Williams apeture firesight works well. Ill try the Wolff spring kit next.

Yeah, i'm disappointed with the ATI folding stock.
It's just practical for carrying, but i find LOP a bit too long and it does wobble when "locked" extended.
The Choate sporter stock should be better.

True ! better do it with the bayo on !!

Sorry to sound stupid,

does the SKS (norinco) bolt lock back on an empty chamber?

I had a SKS-D years ago and it didn't. I assume the normal fixed mag models must be a nightmare to reload if you can't lock back the bolt.
Anyways, sold it years ago but now regret it

Who sells Norinco parts? Marstar? Lever?
Might have to get me another one, not "D" model though. Seemed to jam way too much.

Get a dragov stock. The stock orange mystery wood one is not everyone's taste. Get a bayonet though if you're going to keep the original stock becuase it looks cool  .If you're going to shoot non-surplus ammo the firing pin spring is a good idea. I personally think the recoil buffers are a waste of money because the recoil is light. As for scope mounts use a good fixed one not the receiver cover type. Spend the rest of your cash on ammo......by the case  :!:  :!:

I'm looking at getting a Lever SKS and doing a little replacement to get it a little more shootable. Right now I'm thinking the Choate Conventional Stock, the ScoutScopes.com SKS scope mount, and the Marstar 42mm Red Dot. Anyone have relevant experience with any of these products?

I recommend modifying the mag from empty to full and shooting the sum#####!! For what an SKS is, it is fine....if TSHTF, your SKS is the firearm that will ask nothing and deliver everything...just keep it clean. :D

Scoutscopes.com are currently trying to figure out export procedures to Canada.
I've asked them to contact me when they'll be able to do it.
The Millet rear sight mount is probably the only decent option available right now...

... until PerversPépère makes the gas tube scout mount. PM him to ask how the project's going

Fair enough. This project is taking place over and extended period, so I'm in no big hurry. The gas tube scout mount is what I was originally looking for though. I'd ask, but your smilie makes me nervous...... :|

Fibreglass stocks are nice upgrade. Just DO NOT get one of those hi-cap chinese mags. they ruin the lines of the rifle and accomplish nothing.

One thing I did was remove the cleaning rod fitting /bayonet lug, but that was my choice since I don't intend to stick anyone and I do have a better cleaning rod than the one that came with the rifle.

I like this mount I put on my SKS, had to order and pick-up in the U.S though. Also got a cool muzzle break, and some other goodies.
