Record-Breaking 3-Inch 1000-Yard Group with Factory Savage 308

I can say that mystic precision is a very positive and helpful individual with a true sense of helping ppl new to the game. To some ppl just coming out and shooting and keeping all shots on paper is reason to keep them coming back.
Much like racing. I love drag racing but i know ill never drive a top fuel dragster. But tuning my pickup so i can waste mustangs and camaros and supped up civics makes me smile and at the end of the day i still have a working work
A 3" group at grand with a factory savage is still damn good no matter how you look at it

"and his aggregate for all four five-shot groups (6.756 inches) "

What does that mean?

A single 5 shot group does not mean much. But four good groups is impressive.

I think it means that his average was 6.75" after shooting four five shot groups.
Thats pretty darn good considering he is not using high end equipment. A lot of fellas spend more on a scope than he did on his whole setup. He also probably had a favorable day weatherwise to help him achieve that group size.

I asked for his advice and spent a fair amount of his time when I got into 223 and he was very patient with lots of help especially when buying and did not push what he sold.. A+

The word aggregate suggests it is all the groups put together. In other words, if all his groups were laid on top of one another, and you took the extreme spread of all 20 shots, it would be 6.756".

I'm no competition judge though, just interpreting the word as I understand it. No telling if they are using the word in the same fashion, especially in a place where English is not the first language, like Scotland.

The aggregate does refer to the average of the four groups. In a sense, a score like this really demonstrates how far long range shooting has come in the last fifty years with most of this change being in the ability of the shooters because there has been very little change in rifle technology in this time. If you take another look at his equipment, you see he is shooting a practical-weight rifle, using a fairly poor bullet (as far as BC is concerned), and a cartridge which has to be pushed a bit to work well at 1000. Now, it would appear that he was fortunate enough to be shooting on a remarkably good day as well. Most of today's "F" class and F/tr shooters are going the route of trying to beat the wind with bullet design and weight, just as most 1000 yd BR shooters do. This guy certainly didn't take that route.
It has been twenty years since I shot in a 1000 yd BR match but, even then, the best shooters were producing some remarkable results. When someone can average under 8 inches for multiple ten shot groups, over the course of the season, he is doing something right.

Savage has always been known for accurate barrels....but it really isn't factory once you change stock, bed the action and replace trigger....

The title of this thread should have said: "barreled action" as the article clearly states. It's still noteworthy.
