Hey guys, I've been relaoding for a while, but am becoming more serious about it everyday. Started with a hand press and borrowed dies and have gone up from there to the point where I have a pretty respectable set up, IMHO, lol. One of the last pieces I got whas an chrony and now I want to be a little more dilligent in my record keeping procedures. I am looking at building a spreadsheet to record everything and was wondering how it will stack up to everyone elses?

Some of the info I think shold be in it are the ususal, brass, bullet, primer type, powder type and measure, and weather conditions on the day of the firing.

What do you think, am I missing anything? Thanks.
 
Seating depth? how far off the lands? FL or neck sized? Number of times the brass has been fired? Lot # of brass, Lot # of powder? Lot # of primers? Lot # of bullets? Rifle used? Type of rest used? Barrel? Twist rate? Bore and groove diameter? If the brass has been annealed and how many times it has been loaded since then. Group size? POI with a cold clean bore?
Tons of things you could record, but unless you are working in a ballistics lab most of them will mean SFA at the end of the day.

I am not saying record keeping is a bad idea. It will stop you from making the same mistakes over again with a crappy load.
 
I used to keep a log book of all these details.

One thing I found useful was to keep the targets (cut out section) or target plotting sheet and paste them in my log book.

This really helps visualise the downrange performance of the loads.

PS - another thing you can record is chrony data if available.
 
Great stuff, spreadsheets are the way to go.

Suggest you add your Chrony results. This tool is a valuable addition to your load testing. You can record extreme spread, Standard deviation, and essentially see the point where diminishing returns start to happen as pressures increase. This will help you find your max load for your barrel.

Probably more important is Vertical dispersion of your groups in relation to chrony results. Look for flat groups at distance (typically relate to low ES, SD). Record those and find your most forgiving barrel node in relation to velocity. My two bits.....
