Red dot advice for a Ruger 44 mag carbine

Hello everyone.
I have a Ruger 44 carbine and have a 1.7 - 4 power shotgun scope on it and it is very accurate.
But I was thinking about maybe a red dot for it.
I'm not very familiar with red dot scopes.

I'd just like a nice compact scope with a dot that the moa of the dot isn't too large.
I guess conversely a dot that's is not too small either.

I don't know if there is a picatinny rail mount made for the gun. But that might be nice.

I'd like a decent quality scope, but not a scope that's worth more than the gun...lol

I would appreciate your input.

The bushnell TR25 or whatever they call it now works pretty well and very compact. We’ve had lots of bushnell red dots on bush guns at deer camp and they really seem to hold up we’ll for not a lot of money!
 
holosun 407c or 507c green or red, on the rail mount, keeps it nice and low, even on those single low weaver bases that come on rimfire, never need a battery...solar is primary source and it can run without the battery in it by solar alone, check out the whole holosun lineup of solar stuff, very compact, not budget gear though, higher end stuff
 
I have a holosun 507c X2 red dot (green) that I’m very happy with, but I just recently picked up a Burris Fastfire4 red dot that I’m very impressed with. It comes with a weatherproof rain/dust cover that screws on securely making it great for field use. Also it’s super user friendly and choice of 4 different dot reticles and excellent battery life. Recommend checking it out. There really are some great red dots out there. I also have a Vortex Venom that I’m not too impressed with and wouldn’t recommend itvas there are much better choices IMO.
 
I like the micro red dots for non-tactical rifles such as the Burris Fastfires, Vortex Venom, etc.. lower profile, less snagy and no need for a cheek riser.

What dont you like about your Venom? I have one on my PCC and I don't have any issues with it.

A one piece picatinny rail will give you lot's of mounting options for red dots , micro prism optics and small scopes.

Are we talkin' the 44 Semi Carbine?? if so, Aimpoint Micro with 2 moa dot, because I have them. Otherwise a bit spendy for most folks.

I use the rear base (weaver #47) on one, and a modified weaver base (lowered) on the other. The modded base only lowers the sight a bit over 1/8" which doesn't sound like much, but is noticeable on your cheek weld. I find the 2 moa dot about right, especially at 100m.
 
Whichever model red dot you choose try to stay with the smallest MOA dot you can. I found 2 moa is the perfect size out to 100 yards
 
With a Fastfire on a weaver mount you could probably just run it with the existing rear scope rail and not need a new rail.... but the longer rail looks pretty flexible as far as mounting options go.

There is a specific mounting plate for the Fastfire that clamps directly to the Ruger. It's not that easy to find but it works well.

That's good to know, I don't think any of the semi auto's have the ruger style integrated ring mounts like the 77's and other models.
