Red dot advice for a Ruger 44 mag carbine

Here’s a Venom on my Ruger PCC for reference.

What dont you like about your Venom? I have one on my PCC and I don't have any issues with it.

The Vortex Venom battery cover was defective. Out of the box, the threads on the cap wouldn’t bite once the battery was inserted. After about 1/2hr struggling with it and a marred thread cap I went online and did a search and there was no shortage of folks complaining about the very same issue. After a few more tries I gave up and contacted Vortex and explained the issue. They ended up sending 5 more battery covers to see if one of them would work. When they arrived I was somewhat surprised to see 5 covers and figured they obviously are well aware of the design issue. The first two covers wouldn’t bite either no matter how much down force applied while turning. The 3rd one worked but certainly the threads were not smooth but its on there for now. The dot itself has some vertical bleed which I don’t get with my Fastfire4 and Holosun 507c X2. Both of these are excellent and I like the screw on weathershield with the FF4 which is excellent for out in the elements and it has 3moa dot. Based on my experience I don’t care for the Venom but maybe I just had bad luck. I do like it’s low profile on my sw617 revolver and it was cheaper which can be a factor. For bush use I’d go with the FF4 or another one with a closed emitter to keep the crap out. For a range gun open is fine. You might prefer a tube style for hunting rifle also. Lots of reviews and comparisons online. Might want to check out the Sig Sauer Romeo 5 with standard low mount option for hunting rifle.

I have a Minox RV-1 and it's probably the best res dot I have ever used. A bit pricey, but worth it.

The minox rv1 is quite similar to the aimpoint micro at about 1/3 of the price. 10yr warranty (5 on electronics) if you register it with minox. I have 3 of them and they are all going strong. 2moa dot that is daylight bright.
Go big tactical is the distributor and they're a great vendor. I think they have a discount code that gives 5 percent off if you pay by EMT.
The regular price has come down from 330 to 275$ and it is definitely worth it.

I checked your suggested website and the minox rv1.
Looks pretty good to me.
I think it's between it and the Bushnell .
I figure I could maybe get flip up covers for them for in climate weather.

Thanks everyone for your help !

Iam surprised no one has mentioned the vortex sparc 2. Has a sharp easy to see 2 moa dot they are built like a tank they take a hell of a beating in the torture tests people put them through on you tube Not sure if the sparc 2 is available anymore as they came out with the new sparc solar. I have them on a couple shotguns a couple of rifles and one on a target pistol and all perform excellent. I think I still have a couple new in box in my gun room I bought a few when they were available I liked them so much. Tried the Romeo 5 and was not real impressed. Also the sparc comes with mounts in 4 different heights for pretty much any application

I have picatinny/weaver type rails on all my guns (centerfire/muzzle loader/shotgun) and my single FastFire gets used on all of them. So long as the gun’s dedicated scope is zeroed in, then it’s a snap to remove it and install the FF in its place. (Immobilize the gun and pick a target through the scop, remove the scope, install the FF and zero in on the target without moving the gun. Bingo!) Did this and got a deer with my shotgun. Love that FF!
