Hey fellow nutz - I am new to red dot sights and am looking for some advice based on your actual experience. I am putting a red dot on a 22 rifle because iron sights just don't do it for me anymore. (Don't want a scope.) Here's my criteria:

1. Purpose is small game hunting under 50 yards.
2. Looking for all three of these features: very small, rugged, reliable.
3. Cost is not a factor. I just want the best.

What do you recommend, and why?

Thanks!

Aimpoint micro T1 with the 2 MOA red dot.You can leave that thing turned on for years without needing to replace the batteries. Get yourself an IO cover to replace the bikini cover that it comes with too.

aimpoint micro or eotech exps

Aimpoint tiny little thing barely any weight to the optic, battery life I'm simply amazing the glass has a greenish tint to it, very rugged

Eotech clear glass no tint does not need to be (holographic) blocky and has some weight to it not too much but you know its there smallest dot on the market 1 moa battery life is good but nowhere near the aimpoint

Forgot to mention, Daniel Defense did a torture test vid on one of there AR 15's equiped with the Ampoint mirco. They ran over it with a truck, threw it out of a helicopter, shot it ,and set of an explosive charge next to it.the ocular lense was blow out and it still worked.Made in Sweden and hands down the most rugged on the market.

I own all the following -- Aimpoint H1 (T1 offers NV support), Trijicon RMR, and Vortex SPARC. I love them all, but the Aimpoint is my favourite, and based on your Criteria, its the perfect sight for you. I would HIGHLY recommend buying new , from an authorized dealer. There can be some very sketchy private sellers out there, with a lot of knock -offs. And regardless, our supporting dealers have some great deals on them!

I have tried the Docter Optic version of that type of reflex sight. I really like it. My RMR isn't the best one of this style, because its not as bright as the others, or that's what I am told, but I like it fine. I have owned the buckmark and it is not recommended for heavy recoil

I'm into my Elcan Specter DR,s nice for close range , easy to keep both eyes open & see dot but a serious case of overkill for your purposes. The other is a reflex like the CMore railway, I have one on my Tanfoglio "Eric " & an Aluminum Tactical Railway on an 870 police mag- these are great sights as well, a very good investment... But they might be worth more than the gun...

What about this style of red dot? Burris Fastfire, Bushnell First Strike, Browning Buckmark reflex, etc. If you've tried them, how do they compare?

I've tried the Burris and the Bushnell reflex and pulled them off the gun and into the toolbox.
At 100 yards the red dot on these cover an eight inch target, I need better accuracy than that

Trijicon RMR (Tritium models). They are small, light, RUGGED and don't require batteries. There are several reticle models ranging from dots to triangles. They now have a green reticle which shows up much better than the amber reticles.

I have owned EOTechs, Burris Fastfires, Aimpoint PROs and Aimpoint Micro (T1) and have replaced all of them with the RMR. I have one amber dot, one with the amber triangle (better for precision work since the tip of the triangle is very small) and have a green triangle reticle model on the way.
