I always liked RedDot but I switched over to Aliant's bulk powder, PROMO, which has the same burn rate as RD. For all intents and purposes, PROMO is RedDot. Same flakes, same burn rate, same great performance, just no little red dots.
PROMO sells for C$90.00 for 8 pounds, which is very economical. My current load is Lee cast 124 grain round nose lead bullet propelled by 3.5 grains of PROMO. It makes a great target load. If you are recoil sensitive and your gun will work with it, you can reduce the load to 3.3 or 3.4 grains.
If you want a little more velocity, go to 3.8 or top out at 4.0 grains. 3.8 grains over my chronograph is around 1050 fps.
One of the main reasons I like PROMO is you do not always have to change the powder settings, just the caliber. For example, the 9mm load, 3.5 or 3.6 with a cast 125 grain lead bullet is a very pleasant load. Moving over to .38special with a 158 grain cast lead SWC, the load is the same. Again, moving over to 40 S&W, the 3.5 or 3.6 works very well with a cast 155 grain lead SWC bullet. Three different calibers all using the same powder charge!
