Red dot for sks

Yeah, I'd probably have a trs25 if I didn't get the vortex for a great price from one of Prophet Rivers big vortex sales. The two products are very similar in both size and features, the only meaningful difference I can see is the crossfire claims to be a 2moa dot vs the 3moa on the trs25.

Gotta go with the Badace Tactical rail. It is tiny and fits in place of the rear sight. Very solid.

This is the way to go, a few different options for that too. Also cheaper, holds zero, lower and less bulk. Why add those cheesy rails when any AK compatible sight or mount works better for less?
Here’s matadors mount, not as low as the bad ace mount.

Could be the route I’ll go eventually aswell. The Kodiak rail is about as easy to remove as the normal pin assembly for the back.

Agreed. The dust cover rails are garbage.

Tried that route with the BC Tactical scout mount, can’t say it wowed me. The full length rails like the magwedge are by far more solid than the scout rails are.

The BC mount is pretty hokey compared to the bad ace and lacks the “nut” that replaces the sight spring. They are as solid as the iron sights, a lot more so actually. They use the same forward mounting point as the mag wedge, if it didn’t hold zero using the front sight block neither would a mag wedge.

Gotcha, I just watched their install video, the lock nut that slides into the spring grove is a nice touch, I can see it being solid. I turfed the BC tactical mount because it wouldn’t lock down tight.

I posted this on the thread in the stickies awhile back:

Cheapo barrel-clamp pic rail mount (in this case, actually cobbled together from two such mounts), and a Bushnell red dot although I'm sure you could use just about any brand of mini-sized dot sight. The dot co-witnesses with the sights. Earlier this week I put about 200 rounds through this rifle and the dot sight is rock solid.

I've tried the MagWedge, the rear receiver cover type, a couple of the ones that replace the rear sight, even one of the gas-tube mounts. Didn't like any of them. This set up is the best by far, IMHO. Cheap, fast and easy to install, doesn't interfere with cleaning at all, leaves your rear sight in place, no mods to the gun at all.

Not usually into Chinesium but I'd take a holosun 403 2 moa over a Bushnell or a vortex any day and I've owned them all.

I've got several of this Bushnell model and they always work well...but I wouldn't trust any of the budget red dots on any rifle that needed to be relied upon for serious work. The SKS is a cheap gun that I use to plink with cheap ammo, right off the back deck or out behind the barn. It'll never hunt, or compete, or see a reload or non-surplus round, or have its a$$ kissed in any way.

A buddy suggested that I put an Aimpoint on there, pointing out correctly that the gun will see a lot of use. But...that Bushnell is all it deserves! :) But, again, I was just suggesting the idea of the barrel-clamp mount; you could put any small red dot on there and it would work as well.

They are yes, I am saying that holosun sights for the same price +/- 30 bucks are the kings of the chinesium heap

Like jjohnwm says, the sks doesn't deserve any better. I don't own one but if I did it would wear its #### tier irons and love it.
