I am going to be buying a Ruger SR22 in near future and im looking at optics. I have little knowledge when it comes to red dot sites. I wont be shooting any long distances relatively close within 50 yards max. Im looking for a good quality, but not top of the line. I see lots for $500 and more is that the price range I am looking at to not get a cheap site? What are all your suggestions?

Get a Vortex SPARC it has a 2MOA dot NV capable and comes with a 2X magnifier and all the mounting bases you need even a riser for a AR-15 its the best deal out there for a red dot ....... its just as capable as a Aimpoint micro for 1/3 the price, One Shot Tactical has them on for $239 you wont regret it .. theres no need to spend over $500 for a red dot thats going on a rimfire , hell i run the SPARC on my high end ARs its great.
Alright I will add that to my list to compare. More my price range! I would never spend $500 on a site for as much as the gun is worth
I was where you were. I chose the C-More STS, but I should have spent a little more and got a LOT more.
I should have bought an Aimpoint T-1.
P.S.: If the price of a T-1 is just too high for your budget, Aimpoint also makes the H-1.
Bushnell TRS-25. It is only about 200 bucks all in but does what a red dot does, and is popular for 12 ga shotguns so ought to hold up nicely on a 22. I have one on my new Benelli and it functions well in the cold/damp and holds zero flawlessly. I haven't owned it long enough to comment on longevity but reviews I've read suggest the TRS-25 is rugged and its definitely excellent value for the bucks. I have an EOtech worth 500 bucks. Its a true holograph and has a ?? MOA ring around the dot. Aside from that though, a dot is a dot is a dot, pay what you like.

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 on my Swiss Arms CQB - works great
I bought the $50 canadian tire special Tasco Red Dot. I can still punch toonie size holes at 25 yards if I am patient. Killed many a gopher with it. Its not as accurate as some of the other options out there and probably couldn't handle any more recoil than what it gets, but for the price, it works good. I haven't put it into any extreme conditions so that might be the kicker for it.

Why not buy an H1 aimpoint? Battery life is crazy, won't need to buy a better optic when you upgrade the rifle. If you like you can simply record the settings move it to an ar or something else and put it back when you are done, it can take abuse and hold its zero. Don't know anyone who has regretted buying decent optics, can't say the same for cheap optics. Don't be scared to buy used, they are tough.
