I'm planning on installing a red dot on my Winchester AE. I purchased the weaver two piece bases but because my red dot is the Bushnell TRS it only needs one to mount it, so my question is which one (front or rear) and why would you use? I'm hoping someone here has the same set up.
Thanks

I have used the trs 25 for a few years now on lever guns and it is used to you wether you mount it on the front base or rear, it's all personal preference

Had my TRS 25 mounted on my 1895. I mounted it on the front base as that's where it gave me the best field of view

Had? Did you remove it and replace with something else? I'm thinking of putting one in my 1895G. They are a fairly tough sight for the money, I'm pretty sure it will hold up to the 45-70 recoil

Forward is best, it's not scope, it's a point and shoot device. I got one on the world's ugliest Mossberg 464 SPX (along with laser, flashlight, forward handgrip with extending bipod and one point sling), excellent yard gun for protecting critters from varmints, two and four legged, foreign and domestic.
