need some info, I am trying to help out one of my many aging uncles with failing eye sight, 77 years old and refuses to stop hunting lol, his go to and only rifle is a 1956 which he bought new, he has tried a few other rifles with scopes which did not work for him. Last fall at the camp, some friends dropped buy and one fella had a 94 with a forward scout mount with a red dot scope and my uncle loved, he had to try it out and he could shot about a 5" group at 80 yds and now I am in the process of setting this up for him. What red dot would you recommend, I am leaning towards burris or vortex, his biggest worry is dead battery, how long do you leave these on and how long would a battery last.

Burris ff3 FTW
I've looked into this. There is a diffence in the mount pre/post 64 I believe. In the end I never went forward b/c I couldn't guarantee any expensive mount order would fit a pre 64
i put in truglow fibre sights. Great improvement without a rail.

I just picked up a Primary Arms advanced micro dot (MD-ADS) and it works great. It has in theory up to a 50,000 hour battery life which is ridiculous. Also 12 brightness levels. Apparently some guys turn them on and just never turn them off. You will still need a rail to mount it to.
Check them out lots of reviews online.

so when you hunt you just turn the sight on and leave it on until your done?

That's what I will do when I take it out in the fall, haven't hunted with it yet. I think some of the higher-end red-dots come on with movement and time out after a while with no movement.

TURNBULL makes a nice no drill mount for FastFire II sight for Win 94, 64 and another for Win71. I put one on my71, works really well, you wouldn't believe the groups I get at 100meters. Really fast for hunting.

Has anyone tried an XS Lever Scout Mount, especially on a pre64? There's an FAQ that talks about having to drill and tap. Maybe worth buying an AE for this mount. Aesthetically I like it a lot more than the Pearson mount.

Also, out of a ff3, trs25 and a sparc the only one that has battery issues is the sparc.

Tried to order the Fast Fire rail mount from Turnbull for a win94 today. Sorry, don't ship to canada - ITAR!!. ARG. Any suggestions to get this across the border? Brownell sells many Fast fire mounts, just not the one I'm looking for.
