So I recently traded for a FNP 45 Tac with a red dot on the slide. The open sights line up with the red dot and I find it very busy to look at. Is it better to have the red dot so you cant see the open sights or is it something to get used to. I took the red dot off for my next trip to try as its easy to put on again later.

i had a red dot on my fnx 45 tactical Any how im back to the irons.,couldnt seem to get my head wrapped around it. As you say very busy. The dot was not able to have its intensity adjusted and seemed way to bright on there.

With a dot, the idea is to focus on the target, not the sights. Plain black sights might make it easier, but you shouldn't need to 'line up' anything - see the dot on the target, and press.

While I find red dots "fast" I don't like the added weight/balance and the looks of them on HG's.
I personally prefer plain black sights on my semi's and a front brass bead on my revolvers....YMMV

Dot's are the future.

That said it takes time to get used to using them -- I have around 17.5l thru my CORE with a DeltaPoint - and another 1k thru my Shield with DP.

Target focus is the key - just like shooting a red dot on a carbine --

You will need to change your draw/presentation method to get good fast hits.
