I have a fairly serious eye issue called Keratoconus this is the thinning/drooping of my corneas the usual fix for this is to have a cornea replacement.

I was able to find a special soft contact that made it so I could see fairly well again I had been increasing the power of my scopes and staying away from irons until I found ghost ring sights these made it possible to shoot without a scope again.

Now I am starting to deal with a new vision issue = I now also need reading glasses this is making it almost impossible to use my MI ghost ring sights on my Robinson Arms XCR-L without reading glasses the issue is the front sight is to close to see clearly it is a total blur.

This brings me to my question I am now looking at small red dot or reflex type sights that I can mount on the very rear of the upper rail of my Robinson Arms XCR-L.

The plan is to slip the rifle with the FAST stock folded into a tight fitting shotgun scabbard that I strap to the side of my backpack with the stock in the folded position the rifle does not sit higher than my head and the pistol grip allows for a fast/positive draw from the scabbord.

I have no experiences with these kinds of sights and would totally appreciate any thoughts/ideas/recommendations/experiences to help me figure this out or if these will work for me.

Thanks
CC

My eyes are starting to fade a little as well and I'll probably need reading glasses in a couple of years. That being said I've been using red dot sights on my XCR and a couple of marlin lever guns; 1894 in .357 and a Guide gun.

I own both the Bushnell TRS-25 and Vortex sparc. No magnification, just dots that you can adjust for intensity. Very fast to aquire and unobtrusive. Can't say enough about them. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you a pic of the Bushnell mounted on my Guide gun.

CC,
I've used both an aimpoint ml3 and an eotech 512 on my xcr in .223 and 6.8

Both have advantages and disadvantages.

First, I would recommend looking through both in an outdoor location to make sure that your eyes are compatible. Indoors sometimes, (with my eyes anyways) cause the reticles/dots to startburst or fuzz out.

Sounds like you are looking for a low profile rig, the aimpoint ml3 with low height rings certainly fits the bill, and the battery life means that you can leave it on for months at a time, and not have to fumble for the on switch.
That being said, it does sit really low, I don't know what height the cheek piece sits on the FAST stock, but the aimpoint might sit just a little TOO low.

The Eotech's reticle is where it really shines. The 65 moa circle draws the eye fast, and the 1 moa dot allows for more precise aiming. AA models are the way to go I think, it's easy to have a set of those kicking around somewhere.

If you were closer to my neck of the woods, I'd invite you out to try them both out.

I need to find an Eotech and an Aimpoint to look thru my local shop tells me they have an order of Eotechs on the way all are the AA models.

I would be more interested in the shorter lithium battery models though I already have a couple of Surefire flashlights and have a Streamlight 160 lumins TLR-1s and a 200 lumins TLR-1s HP in the mail that take the lithium batteries so will not have a shortage of the batteries.

Light wieght, automaticaly adjust's to lighting conditions and also works with your stock flip up sights and is rudged like the EoTech cause it's made by the same company.
