i am planning on purchasing a Black rifle (Su16, 858 or XCR) and was looking at optic options! i am mostly going to use this for some competition, target shooting (300 yards and under) and possibly hunting! What would you guys recomend? i was thinking a 1-4x scope! my price range is around 500

The best do-all will be 1-4x.
I have a pst 1-4x on my XCR. I compete, target shoot to 600, and hunt with it. It doesn't do anything perfectly, but does everything well.
I'd check out the new Vortex 1-6, it's in your price range.
1-6x would be great but I have no hands on with the scope.

Thanks for Sharing! ill have a look

For the kind of shooting you're describing, I'd think a 1-4x or 1-6x would meet your requirements. The red dot is fine but it's designed for open eyes shooting at relatively close ranges (below 100m), not really optimal for bench target work to 300m.

I'm a red dot guy. Especially for competitions. I get quicker target acquisition and i have just recently added a magnifier to give me some distance. I use the dot exclusively for everything 100 yds and under and flip up the magnifier for anything further.

which magnifier red dot combo do you like? I'm wanting to do a similar setup

for the OP, I wouldn't try to do much past 100m with 7.62x39, it drops like a stone after 100m

Did you read that on the interwebz? ;)

This is using 7.62x39 surplus through my XCR @ 630 yards on a 16" gong. Relative to the thread, I'm using a 1-4x scope.
Iirc was 18moa

Sorry it's a dry video, but never blame your tools.

I concur for competing; especially if you have to negotiate VTAC boards or shoot support side. I find a conventional scope (even a 1-4x) very hard to use in these cases as I have issues with the eye relief when embuggered int this fashion.

I run an EoTech 512 and G33 magnifier. I tried the Aimpoint and Vortex magnifiers, but eventually crumbled and bought the EoTech magnifier in the end as it is rock solid and easy to deploy.

I have a bunch of red dots...Right now on my main rifle is a vortex strikefire with a sightmark magnifier. Took a chance on the sightmark...got a great deal and so far (1 match), no complaints. Ideally, I'd like to also get an Eotech set up...just recently tried one set up on another shooters rifle and really loved it. About double the price of my current set up though so not in my immediate future.

If you decide on a red dot, magnifier combo try to get the finest dot possible. I have a Vortex SPARC II with a 2 moa red dot. The 3x magnifier makes it a 6 moa at 100 yds. My shooting is done under 75 yds and sometimes on the move.

If most of my shooting was 1-300 yds and from a fixed position then I would go with a scope. Probably 1-6 with decent eye relief because you may not think you need extra power but it is sure nice to have sometimes. Vortex Srike Eagle is at your price point. http://www.bullseyelondon.com/vorte...-moa-adjustment-ar-bdc-reticle-se-1624-1.html
