red dot or variable powered sks?

I actually purpose built this as a brush gun for wolf, coyote and deer on the West Coast. Would work perfect for your needs too. I have the butt pad not for recoil but for a longer LOP. I an 6'2" with gorilla arms...

I can see your point about LOP... Doesn't bother me too much on my Tula using open sights, but start throwing optics on, and I might change my mind... I come in at 6' but have just kinda gotten used to carbine guns with short LOP - my Gramp and Uncle (who taught me how to shoot growing up) were munchkins (5'6" and 5'8"), and that was reflected in their iron. More than once people have commented that my hold looks funny, like I'm "wrapped around" the stock, but whatever, I'm getting too old to change my stance.

Dangit, I'd promised my wife no more cosmoline stinking up the house until spring... I might have to stretch my definition of "spring" to include late Feb./Early March. My SVT & Grizzly cost me new flooring in the living room, I wonder what an SKS build out is going to cost me... Need to get a good negotiating strategy in advance otherwise she'll take me to the cleaners...

Actually the use of optics with the Wartak or KwikRail is a non ussue as you can move them forward or back for whatever is most comfortable. The rail has lots of acreage to allow for adjustment.

No offense, but the last thing I want on my SKS are optics. Clunky, out of place looking, and unreliable in the long term IMO.

That's your opinion - stick to it!

We mount scopes and ring gongs beyond 100 meters - I bet you can't do that.

Just a warning for kwickrail buyers, not sure if this was just mine or many are like this but my rail seemed to be oversized (in the top grooves). i tried to put my trs-25 from my 22 on there just to see how it would look and it wouldn't tighten it moved alot. I just got a scope and took it to the gun shop here and it took awhile to find rings that would fit tight and not move. The Weaver True Grip rings worked for mine. Just a heads up. Love the rail though works really good and is solid.
