Just got a mossberg semi and it does not like to be sighted in any shorter than fifty yards.
As most of my hunting shots are 25 yards, does anyone have experience with a red-dot on their .22?

Enjoyed shooting my friends .308 with a red dot and thought this may be an option.

Thanks for all your replies.

I had a red dot (Bushnell trophy) on a Remington 597 before... no problems.
I had the red-dot set for 25m-50m and the iron sights set for POI at 100m.

:)

Hope that helps.

I may post my extra Red-Dot in the Buy/Exchange forum later today :)

I had one on my 10/22. Was okay. But I didn't like it when I was shooting 50 yards or more. At the smallest setting the dot was too large for my tastes at 50 yds but for 25 yards, it was the cat's meow.

I've used a Bushnell "Trophy" red dot on my 10/22 for a few years now. I freak'n love it. Awesome for quick target acquisition. I have hit pop cans at 100 yards with it... the 6moa dot I have is not the best for precise shooting, but I can get minute of grouse head a 25 yards, no probs.

There are two other different trophy models which have 4 dial in reticles, 3 M.O.A. Red Dot, 10 M.O.A. Red Dot, Crosshairs & 65 M.O.A Red Circle with 3 M.O.A. Red Dot. One has basic red dot center, the other has options between red and green center dot. I need one of these.

Cool... same one I had mounted... the 6moa is pretty good and very robust.

I also have the bushnell trophy which has 4 dial in reticles... the downside to that one is each time you move between reticles you are moving the the reticle; make sense?

If I had to get rid of one, it'd be the latter. I find 6moa to be a perfect dot size - good for close up quick aquisition and decent for 100m work (it'll just cover the smallest thing you are aiming at).

If I were going beyond 100m I'd get a scope (and a different rifle heheh) :p

Hey Crazytrout!
What type of Mossberg semi Rifle do you have?
Are you using an after market mount, or are you using reciver slots?

Also if in doubt aim a little lower.

Before you get out the Drill!

What type of Mossy do you have?

Many of there older Semis came with recivers slotted for ring mounts to grip onto.
As does there newer "plinker".

If you don't have these groves But have a set of mystery holes in your reciver then look into this mount: (scroll down abit) http://havlinsales.com/22rifle.htm

Comes with the screws and fits the hole pattern on the reciver.

I'm told buy another Canadian Gun Nutter that they are, $22.50 (approx $25-$26 Can D) $5. USD shipping, and $1.80 GST...then of couse $8. Duty, but it is well worth it and still cheaper then most alternatives, Takes about 10 days, and yes they ship to Canada.

If in doubt give them a cal at Havlin, and they can set you up with what you need.

I saw somewhere a flat rail type thing that just slid on to the rimfire dovetail that had a standart weaver rail on top. anyone know where to get something like this?
it is not for a mossy but a vostok toz 17.
thanks
