Red dot scope on a Marlin?

Can a red dot scope such as Aimpoint, or something from 1337 tactical be mounted on a 1895 Marlin, in 45-70, and not get wrecked by the recoil? I know it would probably look a little weird! Thoughts anyone??

I use a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on my 336 in 30-30. It's now where near the recoil of a 45-70, but it seems to be unaffected by it. Accurate enough that I took a buck with it last fall.

I got a cheapo bushnell sportsman red dot off the board a few years back for my .22lr. I've since had it on a number of rifles and used it on my slug gun for over a year. It now gets used on my marlin 444 from time to time, and I just can't seem to kill the thing. ;)

I'd look at the overall size of the red dot that interests you to see how it may change the feel and balance of the rifle.

I bought a Marlin that came with a Bushnell Red dot, I have since replaced it with a scope but the red dot is handy.
It will be for sale soon.

I have considered putting a dot on one but find they are a pain in low light.

What don't you like in low light?
