looking for ideas on a red dot scope that would be used for up to 200yds and have a magnifacation of 2x or more.
must be parallax free - i.e. No centering of the dot required to hit center.

it's been said more than once...but what about the Lucid HD7? you can buy the 2x magnifier separately or for a bit cheaper, combined, at SFRC. there is also an option to purchase a 2 -5 variable magnifier as well.

i've found out at 200 yards most, if not all, red dots OBLITERATE the target completely- 100 yards is ok, but swing it out to 2, and you should be on either irons or a scope

There are several makers of 1-4X scopes that have a lit reticle.

Millet/Falcon/Burris/Bushnell/Leupold/Trijicon/Nightforce in rough order of cost from low to high. There are others as well.

Does anyone know whether a 4 MOA dot would be 2 MOA @ 50 yards, and and 1 MOA @ 25 yards? Would that be a safe assumption or am I completely out to lunch?

for that range I wouldn't consider a red dot, you really need to go with a 1-4 with illuminated reticle. I use a NF nsx 1-4 and find it perfect for the job, not cheap but does exactly what it needs to. at 1 power it works every bit as good as an aimpoint for me.
