Red Dot Sight for Ruger 22/45?

So I am thinking I want to try a red dot sight of some sort on my 22/45. It is drilled for the mounting rail so that is no issue, but I am undecided on what sight to get. I want something small and light, probably a reflex sight of some sort. What have people been using and what do they think of them?

Thanks,
Mark

The Burris FastFires are nice and can sometimes be had for decent prices on the EE. I don't think the FFIII is a significant upgrade over the FFII.

The Vortex Venom are pretty nice too.

Both have lifetime warranties, though I've heard Burris has gone to an "over-the-counter" exchange warranty, which is AWESOME.

I got this 24$ shipped reddot and its been great.

be careful. recoil on the 22/45 is quite severe, so you need a quality optic otherwise it will just fall apart.

humor aside, I have a Burris FFIII on mine 22/45 Lite. alternatively, if you're not adverse to spending a bit more, conaiser the Shield RDS from Tactical Imports. I think that's my next RDS.

if you want to go cheep, you can find $30 RDS on Amazon.ca. :yingyang:

Thanks for posting a pic. To me that is way bigger than I want. I have a couple Bushnell TRS-25's and I think they are too big to use on a handgun. Fine for rifles, but that's it for me.

if you think the TRS25 is too big for the 22/45 than you better have some deep pockets my friend.
i cant think of any red dots smaller than the TRS25 that come in under the $200 range and are of good quality.
hell my Delta Point is the same size as my TRS25 and it ran me almost $600!

all i have seen on the 22/45's (mine and friends and at the range) have all run the TRS25 or Buris FF.

vortex venom
about $360 CAN

Buris FF3
$390 CAN

upon looking at pics of them on the web they look the same size as the TRS25 (without the high rise)

Damn, that's 3x times what I was expecting. I was hoping to find a reflex design comparable to the TRS-25 in price, but apparently not. Maybe I will mount one of my TRS's on it and see what I think before I go spending money.

Thanks,
Mark

I went with a used Burris FF2 and Buris 22/45 dovetail mount. Ended up about $270 all in.

This isn't mine but I've got the same setup.

hey Bulldog, did you have to use loctite to keep everything together?

I have the first 22/45 Lite and doesn't matter how tight I make the screws, they are coming loose by end of the day.

even had Reliable set the screw on the front sight with purple loctite and it still came loose the next range day.

i can help ya with that one brother.
yes, loctite the crap out of everything on those guns.
i think its because they are aluminum and it expands with the heat of the guns shooting (my theory on that anyways).
i know mine the rail and comp where coming loose every time i went out and my dad picked one up last year and had the exact same problem.
this winter we both spent a evening and got high on Purple Loctite and have had no issues since then.

picture time!

I've had no issues at all. The way the Burris rail works, the rail snugs down against the dovetail, it's been tight for the last 300 rounds.

I originally had a TRS-25 on the factory rail and I wanted something lower profile and closer to the bore. I couldn't be more happy with the setup.

Weaver makes an RDS similar in size and shape to the FF3 at like 1 third the price.

indeed they do!

going for $150 on Amazon.ca and under $60US at Walmart.com, LOL!

Now that is more like it. I will have a look at those and probably pick one up in the next couple of days, thanks to both for the info.

You could just go balls deep and get a trijicon RMR

That certainly would be balls deep on a $350 gun, but no chance of that with the Alberta economy the way it is at the moment.
