I am going to purchase a Ruger sr-22 in the near future and I have never used a red dot sight before. Right now I am looking at the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot Scope. I am looking for a red dot sight for under $150. However, since I have no experience with red dot sights or even scopes, any input or suggestions for a red dot sight is much appreciated!

I plan on using the sr-22 strictly for target practice.

I think the Bushnell TRS-25 is probably your best bang for the buck. I've heard that it's a pretty tough optic that can survive being mounted to a shotgun (slugs). So, I don't think an SR-22 will be much of a problem for the TRS-25.

Plus the TRS mounts very low, which has that high-speed low-drag look that every SR-22 owner loves. All you'd need then is a Chris Costa beard and a Nuttinfancy chest rig for your sidearm.

You are going to want one that switches from red to green and has variable brightness. Red does not show up well in bright sunlight but green is not bad.

On an SR-22 I think you want something that looks cool - ie a cantilever mount - I have this one on my SR-22 and it looks really wicked

Also - with a bit of fiddling around with rail extensions this site co-witnesses - ie I can use my Magpul iron sights as well as the optic.

It was cheap too - (bought from Ken Arnold in the USA)

Here's your Bushnell along with the risers you will need to be able to use it with iron sights.

Problem is the US State department no longer allows the risers and rails to be exported - they are hard to find in Canada. If you live near the border you can order them from the US and pick them up from a Kinek point on the US side.

I have a bushnell t-dot (acog clone) that has been mounted on many .22's that allows co-witness that has stood up to everything I've been able to throw at it.

Replaced it with an aimpoint and an eotech, and don't have a use for it anymore, but it's a very good red dot.

All told I have four red-dots (and another on order) plus a cheap Chinese Eotech clone and all have held up well. I have a Walther Top-point red dot on my Norinco JW -14 .22 which has stood up to a many hundreds of rounds without losing zero. The JW-14 is a tack driver - shoots sub one inch at 50 m. I've got a Walther PS-22 on my Beretta CX-4 airgun - it looks cool and is as accurate as the airgun is capable of. The NC-star red/green 5TH GEN™ UTG 4.2" ITA has performed just fine on my SR-22 although has seen only 300-400 rounds. I have a 'Camo' (Chinese Bushnell knock-off) 2X42 red/green on my Tomahawk 12 gauge - I had to lock-tite it on but it has held just fine over a couple of hundred rounds (generally target loads). The Eotech clone is on an SKS but has held up okay too although I had trouble with the reticle jumping around when I zeroed it - it holds all right once adjusted.

Most of them are made in China - only the branding changes. Acog and Eotech are hugely expensive for being built in the US. I'm happy with my cheapo NC Star, Walther and Camo.
