Alright guys I need your help. It is that time that I buy a modern optic for my SKS and i'm not to sure what to get. I dont want anything to "cheap", about in the range of $80-$150, if thats enough. Suggestions on a good reliable red dot with a clear dot? And are there affordable magnified red dots on the market? Thanks all the helps appreciated.

Vortex SPARC, but at around $225 it's worth more than the rifle. It comes with a screw in 2x magnifier. Have one on my M305...its quite nice. Looking at another for one of my shotguns aswell. Not sure of anything in the less expensive range. I've had a few worth $50 for airsoft and I wouldn't trust any of them on a centerfire rifle.

Thanks for the replies guys, Ill go check out the trs 25, looking for something a little bigger but quality is still a priority. And i got a tac rail reciver cover, filed it down so it fits nice and snug and ready for a red dot.

Trs-25, trs-25, trs-25.

Vortex Strikefire $175
bushnell gen2 holosight $200
bushnell TRS25 $125
Sightmark ultrashot $100
tasco "red dot" $40

would be your best "bargain" optics all of which should run under 200

Well his choice of red dot isn't gonna matter if he is going with a receiver cover mount.

Won't be accurate enough to know if the red dot is on or off. :p

Seriously though.... OP please ditch the receiver cover, and get yourself a scout mount. Anyone who has used both will tell you the same, and the TRS 25 size is ideal for the scout mount.

Although with a receiver cover riser mount you can still use your irons as a back up ( even with your optic still attached ) - if properly installed ( correct filling angles ) they don't lose zero, even after removing to clean... or at least the 3 Ive had don't, but maybe I'm just lucky :S

Both routes have pros and cons, its up to the user to decide which is more important.

I have a Promag mount and Bushnell TRS on the way, taps right into the metal, I have high hopes for this setup. You can still use the iron sights, I believe. Will post results when I get it together.

Fwiw, I recently installed a Bushnell TRS on my shotgun and have been feeding it lots of slugs. It is tight and holding zero after two trips to the range with about 70 slugs though it. I think you'll enjoy it!

I love the 1x32 Bushnell T-dot. The reticle is much more useful than just a simple dot. Helps a lot at longer ranges, up to 400m with 7.62x39mm. Base of the T for your off-set at close range.

Picked up the 2x32 version but I have yet to try it.

Indeed...
I picked up the x1 T-DOT red/green Bushnell trophy for my Windham armory AR15 last week after intensive research online. That thing is just unreal..Holds zero and its realy made for long ranges.
That x1 moa helps alot for that. Indoor i use the green color and outside the red. A great scope for 190$...
I heard about the x2 one and i wish i bought that one instead.
