Hello again,

So I'm looking for a red dot for my SR22 and 10/22 but I don't know much about optics. Today I drove to Lebarons (no stock at all) and Bass Pro (sold out) with no luck. Essentially I'm reaching out to the CGN Rimfire community asking you what red dot works best for your SR22's and 10/22's and which of our dealers has them available. I need to buy two of them for the Easter long weekend. Ceiling price would be $200 each.

Any and all advice is welcome!:)

Cheers,
Rupert

Vortex sparc is on my SR22...excellent red dot with lifetime warranty. I think Grouse River or One Shot Tactical has it.

Edit: oops...didn't see the $200 ceiling...but the sparc is only slightly more expensive than that. Trust me...don't cheap out on the red dot (yes, I know from experience).

Under $200? I've got a Bushnell TRS 25 that took the recoil from my shotgun and Mini-14, love it, no problems, but it is a small tube (in my opinion) to aquire visually without a solid cheekweld, and I had to modify Butler Creek flip-ups (in depth) to get them stuck on. Right now I'm destruct testing a NcStar 2-7 illuminated reticle (not bright enough even on cloudy days-gimmicky) on my 10-22 and so far so good but for grouse I'll definitely run the Bushnell. Oh, bought the red dot at Wanstall's, good people.

Nothing fancy on mine, just a Tasco Propoint. Goes for about $150-60 from what I remember. 30mm tube, unlimited eye relief and if I had to guess, 3-4 moa dot.

What about this one, any good?

Would it be difficult to import this from the US?

Red dots are a big subject (like a lot of firearms related stuff.) I suggest you either:

1. Do a lot of research on the web to determine what fits your needs; or
2. Buy a cheap one and learn from experience.

Here are some of the things you'll want to consider if you choose option 1:
-reflex or tube type
-multiple reticles or single dot
-size of dot
-on/off switch or auto sensor
-adjustable intensity or not
-type of mount
-ease of use of elevation and windage adjustments
-magnification or not
-warranty coverage
-price and quality

Some particular model that someone likes may not work for you for any of the above reasons. Individual units can also vary in quality due to manufacturing defects. I recently had to return a Vortex Sparc because the dot flared, doubled and bled. Many others have had good ones. You never know.

If this all sounds a bit daunting just buy an el cheapo and discover that way what works and what you like. Price is not necessarily a guarantee of quality. I've got a couple of $18 Chinese knock offs that are still going strong three years later.

2 years and 10000 rounds ago I bought a 50 dollar red dot from fabsports (above) for my 10/22. I have just recently had to resight it because I dropped it. I have had no issues other than that.

Browning Buck Mark

I picked up a Browning Buck Mark Reflex sight for about $50 at Williams' Arms in Port Perry for my SR22.

It meets my 'plinking' needs just fine.

When it's time for something with magnification, the Buck Mark can be re-purposed on a handgun.
