Looking at the Vortex Strikefire right now. Any other suggestions for something a bit more budget friendly? Reliable and good battery life is key, but I figure there may be something a bit cheaper if all I intend for it is rimfire...

Holosun is making some decent red dots, I bought a 503C model for an AR while I save for a scope and its seems to work well. The 2 MOA dot in a 65 MOA circle is really nice. Auto brightness adjustment and dual power source are nice as well. Came with a high and a low mount for under $300. They are no Aimpiont Micro but they seem to work well for a lot less money.

Just my opinion...... have 5 Vortex optics, love them all. Have bought cheaper but then they have had problems. For example turning the adjustment screws does nothing and then all of a sudden it moves WAY too far. In other words the cheaper stuff is "TOO" cheap.
Others WILL disagree but that's just my opinion, since you asked. Vortex isn't the most expensive, nor the cheapest, but they all work perfectly. If you're going to go less expensive atleast stick with a brand name and a good dealer that will take returns. Stay away from the "knockoffs". Amazon and ebay sell a lot of "similar looking / named knockoffs"

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 and it is an awesome little red dot for the money. Very good reviews online - seems everyone likes it. Amazon has them for pretty cheap; don't think you can go wrong. Works great on my .22, the only thing you might not like is the 3MOA dot and/or the 1/2 MOA click adjustments.

Shop around for the trs-25 there is two models. One has a riser, the other doesnt.
However you can get one with riser for $125 out the door if you do some calling and shopping. Fwiw some site sponsers are selling the trs-25 without riser for over $150.
The gun shop in Kensington in Calgary is where I got mine. Great guys to deal with.

TRS-25s are OK for a .22 red dot. You just have to be careful about mounting them:

1. Screw heads strip easily. M3.5 x 0.6 is the correct size for a replacement.
2. The clamp part is aluminum and threads can strip.

Holosuns are a good sight for most uses and aren't terribly expensive. They aren't as good as an Aimpoint Micro, but they are also much less expensive.

I have a strike fire 2 and a trs25. The trs is smaller and lighter but the strike fire 2 is the better piece of equipment. I had an issue with my first strike fire and vortex gave me a brand new one , no questions asked. Personally I'd buy the strike fire 2 or find a vortex sparc at least you get the warranty. The strike fire is just clearer and the dot is better for me, also I can screw on a 2x magnifier

+1 on the Vortex warranty.

I recently picked up a gently used TRS-25 for under $100 on the EE, wanted something small and light for a 10/22 takedown. So far it seems to have a solid mount, the dot is visible enough to use on a bright day, and it holds its accuracy. Very happy with the quality, considering the price.

No experience with the Vortex red dot but their warranty probably makes it the better deal.

I've got a TRS 25,it seems to work well for shots under 50 yards which is where virtually all my 22 shooting is anyway...I'd like a holosun , but it's twice the price of the TRS 25.I think you pretty much get what you pay for....

THIS!

I have both as well. Love the Strikefires size, I do like the Trs-25 but would replace it with a Strikefire just for the bigger size.
Can't go wrong either way.

For those of you with holosuns, can they be mounted just as low as a trs25? I don't know a lot about red dots, but I want something to co witness with my nodak spud peep sight. The trs25 is listed as a perfect match, but I really want the larger circle dot on the holosun.
