I find myself swapping back and forth for plinking with a 10-22, haven't decided what I prefer. Have you guys bounced back and forth swapping the red dot out for optics? What did you end up settling with?

I was doing the bounce then when they went on sale I bought another so I had one dedicated to each optic. Sr22 has a sparc and the other has a 3-9 Nikon. Also a savage bsev with a Nikon 4-12. I hate switching and it's one of the cheaper guns out there so I decided to set up a cpl then no more taking apart. So I guess to answer I decided on both and more guns haha

Yup, I went back and forth on my 10/22. The red dot works fine, but it's more fun seeing the holes I'm making...so a 3-9x scope lives on it now. Red dots are the best for speed and stress, but that doesn't really apply for the type of shooting I'm doing. I set up a little target gallery at the range the other day and the scope wasn't slow. I think with training you could become pretty quick with the target transitions.

I have a cheapo Tasco red dot on a 10/22 TD. Works great for plinking. I have the same scope on a Chiappa M1-22. For $40-50, the little scopes are doing okay. I don't think I will be heading off to the Olympics with either rifle, so I'm happy. With my fuzzy old eyes, a red dot works good for killing attack orange plastic targets!

my decision would be made on what kind of shooting I intended on doing with my 10/22.

rimfire scopes aren't that expensive, so it wouldn't be crazy to consider buying a scope for plinking out to 50 yards and an entry level RDS for CQB plinking.

in fact, you could even consider a RDS and a cheap magnifier and be able to reach out more than 25 yards with better accuracy. :D

I've tried both and found the RDS best out to about 25 yds and the scope best for 50-100 yds I've put a RDS with a 4x magnifier on it on mine but haven't had a chance to try it out yet, might be the best of both worlds.

Another option would be a scope with an RDS mounted on top, something like this:

I did that on an SKS it it's working out pretty great

Kinda depends on what I use the 22 for.

I got some rifles or pistols with reddots and some with scopes... Reddot are normally steel plinker at closer range or faster firing. Scopes are normally for longer shooting.

I've went back and forth so many times I ended up buying a marlin 795 and scoping it. It's a little more accurate so the scope is a better fit on it I find. Ended up going with peeps on my 10/22 which I find nearly as fast and much, much more accurate than a red dot.
