They're rated for centerfire stuff and were originally marketed as a hunting sight for low-light use on brush guns (high caliber, short barrel hunting rifles) for close range shots (0-75y) before Bushnell realized it's better to market it as a tactical sight. It'll survive just fine on the AR15 platform, the only issue will be height... if you have a fixed front sight, it may block too much of the red dot's window. If you have a folding front sight, you're golden!
