So i just got my Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle - it Came with a NEW in box Vortex Crossfire 2-7 Scout scope BUT i'm thinking of a RED Dot site of some sort ? Burris or Vortex OR ? Aimpoint ?
This rifle will just be used for short range hunting and Bear defence ! Might be in very ####ty weather and rough usage so it needs to TUFF !
What's your Guys Opinions on using one and What brands you like ? thxs RJ

I used to have an Aimpoint H2 on a Remington 700 Mountain SS a while back. It was a very light and accurate combo. Still held sub MOA to 200 yards. Sadly I never hunted with that combo but it was fun shooting it.

I picked up a Primary Arms MD-ADS red dot and put it on my 22 to shoot grouse and it works great.
Has 12 illumination settings, 2 MOA dot and a 50,000hr battery life. It is very rugged. Check out Youtube videos of guys abusing them and they hold up to the punishment.

Aimpoint h1 was nice. Trijicon Mro has a much wider field of view and because of that I think it may be the best option when used for hunting

Vortex® Crossfire® Red-Dot Sight on SALE at CABELAS.ca $149.95 any one using one of these ? RJ

Seem to be on sale at most retailers at the moment. I've got one on a .22, works as intended with plenty of brightness - which is certainly more than can be said about the ~$80 thing I bought from Cabela's before it was returned for the Vortex.

Bushnell trs-25 is a great lower priced rds, I’ve had one on a couple 12g shotguns for a couple years now with zero issues. I’d have no second thought about using it for what you’re planning to use it on or for.

If your hunting grizzlies or in an area with any I wouldn’t put no Chinese made optic on my rifle. If it’s for plinking then whatever

Seems a Buddy on here has one he's NOT using so i'm going to try it out - Thxs RJ

They’re good little red dots, hope it works well for you. I have zero complaints with mine since I bought it in 2015, all I’ve had to do is change the battery twice. I have only shot full power slug and buckshot loads with it and last year used it on a choked shorty 12g for grouse swatting, it worked perfectly and has handled 12g recoil like a champ.

Sub moa at 200 yards, without magnification, and a dot that obscures at least 4 inches of the target?...

I reckon I’d like to hear your fishing stories too ;-)

I have the first Burris red dot. I have it mounted on a 22/410 combo gun so the maximum energy it exposed to was 410 buckshot.
It works great for bunny and grouse however once the battery runs out (18 months now) I will have to re zero the optic because you have to dismount it to change the battery.
Not ideal.
