:confused:Greetings.
I am looking for information on a RED frame (factory) Glock 17 9mm pistol.
I understood that the red frame Glocks were a non fire training device.
What I have is;
Factory Glock frame in red plastic, factory slide, factory 9mm bbl. all factory, all matching ser.# Not a put together pistol but a fully normal G17 only with a red frame and silver grey slide.
Registered as a live 9mm Glock 17
I have never seen a red glock before and didn't know that Glock offered them (live) for sale.
Any info on this pistol and thoughts on value would be appreciated.
Thanks.

they are listed as NON FIRING training pistols.
thats they way they come from Glock.
sounds like yours maybe has had the top end replaced with a live one.

color polymer makes me uneasy....

Magpul even admits their non black PMAGs are weaker because of the dye used

The red ones are training pistols.
Issued to police. I used them in the Calgary police. The lower is exactly the same as a normal g17, apart from being red.
The slide has no hole for a firing pin, the barrel is solid with some holes drilled through it sideways at the end.

Basically it will rack and click using dummy rounds, but if you put a live firing slide and barrel on it then it will work just like any other glock.
I remember they were all registered just the same as all the other police glocks as the frame is a fully functioning firearm.

We also had blue glocks, which fire simmunition rounds. These ones would not work with a live firing slide.

Assuming the OP isn't talking about some custom dye or paintjob, this is 100% correct. Red and Blue frame are to visually distinguish training pistols. You'll see the odd one turn up that has had a functioning slide installed, maybe even gone so far as to be force matched like what it sounds like in the OP. However if it's a true red frame, it's highly likely to be a trainer with a live slide installed.

That's why these "training" pistols are still registered.

My recommendation without further information on the Glock would be to avoid this one, unless you like the red polymer. Then it should command no more of a price than any other functional Glock, there is no collector value here.

All 3 ser # match on the gun, the pin hole on the slide looks identical to my black G19, the frame is red glock mfg. inside and out, no paint. It had desert cam paint on the frame when I got it. when I cleaned off the paint the frane was red and the slide silver grey. Otherwise looks like post # 5 but fully live fire.

Very strange. I remember the desert camo Glocks being "Iraq war commemorative" models. Does the slide say something to that effect?

Glock painting slow sellers to get them out the door? (not likely, but..)

Pics would be greatly appreciated.

Most injection molding polymers are naturally white or a bone like colour. Black or other colours are added in a specific ratio depending on the desired finished colour required. Glock & others would likely order theirs pre-blended from their supplier.

I doubt colour would have any affect upon strength. The amount of regrind as in recycled plastic as a percentage can affect the end product. Firearm frames may require 100% pure resin be used to maintain absolute strength.

to put your mind at rest about the strength of the red ones.
in training I've seen them dropped, kicked, thrown across the room, used to grab and wrestle someone to the floor with, used to hit people, smashed into the floor by people falling on the holster and other serious abuse..
all the red ones i saw looked brand new no matter how much abuse they got. every new cop gets issued one to use in basic training. so they've had years of abuse.
my issued black glock 22 looked worse from all the holster wear on the slide, and many thousands of rounds..
long story short, i doubt you'll break one..

Sounds like it's forced matched with same serial parts.

Pics would be cool ;).
