Red Gun Lovers...how do you clean your rifles after firing corrosive ammo?

At the range:
Spray Gunzilla down the bore and boresnake, respray
spray the gas system/piston
spray the bolt face

At home:
Regular thorough cleaning, again, with Gunzilla.

Never had a problem with doing it this way, no corrosion, no pitting, and the Gunzilla makes it a breeze.

I use CLP on a bore snake and then wipe the rifle down, that's it.But maybe it depends on whether your barrel is chrome lined or not.

As was mentioned once before on the forums, I don't recall seeing a photo of or hearing about Soviet soldiers carrying around pots of boiling water or bottles of windex.

The Canadian army issued a funnel for pouring boiling water down the bore of the Lee-Enfield. I have one and use it for my rifles.

I heard that peeing down the barrel works too...
Although I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon.
Just be sure to clean after use ;)

I use the boiling soapy water than solvent followed by oil. But I bought some of that WWII corrosive bore cleaner, so I'll give that stuff a try.

I post this everytime this thread comes up.

You cannot "neutralize" potassium chloride. Calling corrosive ammo "corrosive" is a misnomer. All you can hope to do is mechanically remove as many of the KCl molecules as you can.

The absolute best method is lots and lots of BOILING SOAPY WATER. Bar none.

The soap will help breakdown the crud in the bore so you can start to access KCl underneath it. I use Dawn, but any other similar dish type soap would work fine.

If you can show me a better solvent than water for KCl I would love to know. No 40 dollar a bottle miracle solvent will do a better job. I use boiling water because it dissolves s**t better than ice water. The more you use, the more you can dissolve then flush away with new water.

Hit it with a quick spray of WD-40 down the bore if you want, displace any water that didnt already evaporate. Run a patch maybe and you are done.

Windex isn't bad, but torrents of boiling water beat measly squirts of room temperature water every time for dissolving/flushing away the higher number of molecules.

Go to Home Depot/Crappy Tire/Store down the road and buy a funnel and some tubing. Make the device that has been illustrated here:

and be done with it.

If one didn't have access to boiling water at a gun range, what can be done initially to clean an SKS for the trip home? Should I use windex on the bore, gas tube, and action immediately after I'm done shooting? Or not worry about it at all and just do a thorough cleaning when I get home?

Exactly!! I think too many peeps believe their rifle is going to rust up tight minutes after leaving the range. In most normal situations you have plenty of time to get home and give your rifle a good cleaning, I would not be to worried unless you live in a very very humid area.
You mean like say...
The wet coast? Were it has been raining since the end of the winter oylimpic's

That funnel is a great idea. This is something I was wondering too... I just used the brush and Hoppes Elite + patches.

Seems a funnel and soapy water is a better alternative, then finishing with a bore conditioner or something..
