A 67-year-old Red Lake man may have been the target of a bear attack while picking blueberries.

The Red Lake & Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that on July 20th, 2020, they were advised of an overdue male who left home in the morning to pick blueberries on Tuzyk Road off Highway 105, between the Township of Ear Falls & Municipality of Red Lake.

With the assistance of the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), officers located a deceased 67-year-old male from Red Lake.

A black bear was located in the vicinity of the deceased and was dispatched by officers.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has been contacted and will be sending the bear to Guelph for testing.

We are reminding people to be aware of their surroundings when outdoors. If a bear poses an immediate threat to public safety by exhibiting threatening or aggressive behavior, call 911 or your local police.

For more information regarding bear safety visit the MNRF website at#ontario.ca/bearwise.

Call the police so they can pop off a couple bear bangers and job well done.. pshhhhhhh
Fish cops are even more worthless .. with those live traps catch n release... so bear takes a day or two to walk back to town. Job well done

I had a buddy who used to go pick blue berries (and they were the BIGGEST bb you ever saw) when he visited his cousin in SK.

Since he was disabled, his job was to sit in the truck with a shotgun and watch for bears while the cousins picked berries

Lol "call your local police" in Red Lake. The OPP station is past ear falls a few minutes and its almost an hour drive to Red Lake.

Yup it’s a ways between ear falls and red lake
Last fall we were working up there on the pipeline and our main site was set up at Bruce lake about halfway to red lake from ear falls
Saw lots of wildlife around the area bears included
