So I have a redding seater die, not the micrometer seater. I'm trying to seat VLDs but I'm out of adjustment to seat the bullet any deeper and I can barely get the bullet seated deap enough to be off the lands, the seater plug is bottomed out. Previously I had also loaded accubonds with a similar issue. Any help would be really appreciated!

Not a whole lot of specifics there, but to eliminate the most likely potential problem:

  1. Loosen your die lock ring and place a case ready for loading in your shell holder.
  2. Run the case up into the die to the top of your press's ram travel i.e. at the point it would be at after completing seating a bullet.
  3. Screw your die down in the lock ring until you feel the mouth of the case make contact with either the crimp portion or shoulder of the die. Or less likely, your case holder touches the bottom of your seater die.
  4. Now back the die back out a quarter turn or so and tighten your lock ring. (And all your cases are trimmed to the same length, of course, right?)

If you've already done that and you still don't have the necessary range of seater adjustment, then a call to Redding is probably in order.

I'm not sure I fully understand the problem, so take this with a grain of salt, but can't you put the locking ring underneath?

What cartridge? If it is a really short cartridge case like a 6 BR, maybe you need an extended shell holder. It raises up the case to allow for plenty of adjustment in the die for seating.
Redding lists their extended shell holder on page 15 of their 2021 catalogue pdf. Other brands also make an extended shell holder.
