Have you put a one piece base on your med action Vanguard (.243)
On the Redfield chart it lists a 47152 for a long action, same # as a Rem 700, but it doesn`t give the same interchange for short action 47169 It shows the two piece SR mounts as being interchangable. I don`t as yet have rifle in hand to make measurements.
I know there are other options, Tally, etc but I don`t care for the look of them or any notched rails. I have lots of Redfield rings and could go with the SR system, but curious why there seems to be no listing for a JR base.

My experience with this.
An older Vanguard with the one piece Leupold base fit and the rear of the base
encroached over the bolt opening.
I didn't like it and pulled it off.
I used this same Leupold base on an S2 short action and it worked without this encroachment.
It just picked up or used the other rear mount screw at the rear.

I recently scoped two Howas with Talley mounts and on both the rear mount hung over the ejection port by a good quarter inch.
It did not affect ejection, just looked funny so I measured it and filed it to a taper, added a couple dabs with a felt marker, now you cannot tell but a person should not have to do that.
The exact same mount is a perfect fit on a Vanguard S2 receiver so there must be a slight difference in the top of the receiver between a Vanguard and the Howa.

Interesting, as I've just recently made arrangements with a CGNer to purchase a one piece Leupold base and ring set-up for my recently acquired "Flame stocked' S2. Did your one piece base actually restrict loading and or ejection etc?

Update:
Kevans post above may have given me an answer and/or solution.

According to my measurements the difference in the two receiver tops between the Vanguard and the Howa is not in size or length but simply where they are drilled and tapped.
The screw holes in the Howa are slightly closer forward and of course with all things being equal they will move the mount correspondingly forward.
Took a while to figure out..... I confuse easily...
Such could be the case between the early Vanguard and the later variation ?
