Here is how it started out, 7 1/2" Ruger Redhawk .44 mag that I had purchased from a fellow Gun nut.

I wanted it shorter, about 4 1/4" actually.

Rounded off the grip frame and grips

I ordered a custom holster for it from Simply rugged in Alaska. Great product, I would highly recomend Rob and his products! www .simplyrugged.com

I have shot it quite a bit so far and it shoots very well. Hurts a little with fully loaded 300g Speers. Sorry no pics of targets. I am very happy it is finally finished and re registered. My next project will be my .41 mag Blackhawk :D

You should try a Pachmayr grip for your Redhawk. I bought one for mine and it made a world of difference.

I like it just the way it is :D
I found that without the Pachmayr grip, the side of my middle finger would get sore after a while of shooting because that's where most of the weight of the gun was bearing down but when I got the new grip, I didn't have those problems any more because I could grip the handle properly and support it better. It also makes the full house loads more manageable to shoot.

I had some Hogue rubber grips and didnt like them and have shot my buddies 629 with the Pachmayr rubber grip and didnt like them either.

Anyway, the grip frame has been changed as you see above, so nothing but custom grips will fit now. And it fits my hand perfectly now :D

These are what I used for referances, only mine is a little longer because of our great firearms laws here in Canada.

Sweeeeet.

I want to do the same thing with a 6" S&W 629 Classic at some point.

I have had that thought for a while as well. That is actually what I was looking for before this gun threw itself on my lap at a price I couldnt refuse.

All in good time I guess :D

looks good. I like the round butt on it. I've got a 106mm M29 and M19, and will probably do the same round butt treatment on the M19.

did you dovetail the original sight back onto the rib ?

Rick at ATR!!!!!!!!! = he who shall not be named!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks like a perfect piece for bear protection, especially when your inside a sleeping bag and get rudely interupted.

That Redhawk should be much more controlable -shootable than a similar barreled 629. I had a 3" 629 that was horrible to shoot with heavy loads, and incredibly loud.

nice job man...If you dont want rubber, are you gonna at least get some nice hardwood for the grips? Might look nice with some ebony or something like that...
