what would be the prefernce for optics on a shotgun. i'm leaning towards a low power scope so as not to worry about batterys or electrics breaking. the shotgun reciever is grooved so either is easy to mount. 20 inch barrel if it matters. would like to shot slugs out to 100 yrds. i will be shooting buck shot as well.

At one hundred yards the main benefit of an optical sight would be putting the target and reticle in the same focal plane. Having no magnification wouldn't be a problem so most red dots would be fine. Since you are concerned about battery or other failure a fixed power scope at low magnification seems preferable. A used Weaver K2.5x is a good solution.

Aimpoints batteries last forever if your only issue with the red dots is the batteries their not realy an issue with the aimpoints something like 50,000 hours and they have no problem holding up to a shotgun
