Reduced 223 loads

msg.drew, at this point, there is only one way to find out what works for you. Just load up and go shoot. Tweak as needed.

Having shot indoors for many years, I didn't appreciate when the magnum HG showed up and shook the walls. But that might just be me.

I keep my loads at a low enough level to not offend those next to me. Afterall, we are all trying to have a nice day.

haha have you heard a 10" Ar go off with a stock muzzle break and nato SAMMI specs? Its loud as probably a 44mag or louder.

you think its safe to double the powder charge and try again? to 6grs?

The pressure increase with powder increase may not be linear, and you don't have a pressure gun so you won't know exactly what's happening. If you want to increase the charge, don't just go straight to double, work up in increments. I seriously doubt you will ever get an AR-15 to cycle with pistol powder and remain within safe pressures.

If you want rifle ammo, make real rifle ammo with rifle powder. If you want cheap subsonic plinking ammo, live with the downside of cycling manually. Your fingers/eyesight/rifle aren't worth six cents a round.

That said, I'm going to load up some of these titegroup rounds (with published data) and go to the range. :50cal:
 
good luck, also I don't think you need to worry about stuffing the cases to compact the powder just drop 3.1grs into the case and thats it, go to the range and plink away.

I will keep posting as I add powder to this load. 3grs is way to dirty to bother loading in my opinion more powder around 6grs should burn much cleaner
 
Back from another range trip this time I worked up the load to 5.0grs started at 3.3grs fired 3 then 3.6 4.0 4.3 4.5 5.0 three of each of those with out any signs of pressure or wear on the cases I shot each one and then inspected the case and gun, did that 2 more time for each weight you can tell 5.0grs has more punch then 3.0grs. I am going to try and keep going... 5.0grs is not enough to even move the action in my Ar yet. I think if I can get to 10grs safely and it still is not working the gun well I will just go back to reloading with IMR and try and reduce those.

Is there any software that can give some ball park estimates on what I am doing, looks like I should get a chronograph as well
 
Just got back from shooting. They hit about 6 inches lower at 50 yards than normal 223, are very quiet, and stink. It could have been me, I wasn't putting a lot of effort into it, but they seem very inaccurate. I think I'll stick with normal 223 loads.
 
I worked the loads up to 10grs of titegroup today around 9.5 - 10 grs they started to show that the primer was being flattened which is not good they had alot more punch but nothing like my even low loads of 18grs of rifle powder

They still don't operate my ar-15 wonder if anyone makes a spring thats not as heavy maybe one for a 22lr kit for an AR-15 then I might be able to make this work
