Reduced loads for 308.

I've used 25grn IMR4227 on 125grn sierras with great results. Accuracy is excellent out of my x bolt, with recoil being very light. They work well in my 305 too.

I've used 15 grs of IMR 4198 with a 100 gr cast lead plain based bullet. Makes a good plinking/small game load.

25 grs of IMR 4198 with a 200 gr cast lead gas check bullet.

36 grs IMR 4198 with a 110 gr .30 Carbine bullet.

46 grs of H335 and either a 100 gr Speer Plinker or a 130 gr Hornady Spire Point.

Try TrailBoss powder. It's shaped like little donuts to take up a lot of space in the case so you get a low power load. It's popular with cowboy action shooters for low recoil.

You can use this stuff for subsonic loads too.

I make some special 308 Partridge loads using a double 0 buck shot and half a case full of TrailBoss, but you can use it with 125 grainers too.

I haven't succumbed to TrailBoss yet, my reduced loads primarily use: 4895, SR-4759, or Unique, with either jacketed bullets or cast. An exception to the rule is when I'll sometimes use a case full of slow burning powder under a heavy bullet in small cartridge, for example 30 grs of H-414 under a 195 gr cast bullet in the .30-30.

Trail Boss x2. I load for everything from the 30-30 to the 45-70 to the .350 Rem Mag. I particularly enjoy shooting the .350 Rem Mag while experiencing the recoil of a .243. :)

There's a simple recipe for any/every centre fire cartridge on the Hodgdon site.
