Reduced Loads for the 308 ?

Instead of changing your regular load, an option you could try, is pick up a Slip-On Limbsaver Recoil Pad for you rifle to get her started.

The only issue with this is that it adds about 3/4 inch to the LOP, which is quite possibly already too long for the Mrs. "Fit" is a big factor in felt recoil.

Another option is to add weight to the rifle. If it has a plastic/resin/synthetic stock with a hollow butt, one can usually take the end cap off and fill the butt-stock with something. I added 1 and 1/4 pounds to my girls' rifle by filling the buttstock with acrylic caulking.

Regarding the factory reduced recoil or "managed recoil" loads, I have never used them, but I am a reloader and I do make "reduced recoil" loads for my girls to shoot. They are not nearly as slow and "reduced" as the factory ones, but they are far more pleasant to shoot (especially with the added weight) than full power loads. Basically they are "starting loads" with light (130gr) projectiles. They kill things very dead. I'm talking .270win here - but 6 of one and half dozen of the other. With the lighter loads and heavier rifle, it feels like maybe 20% more kick than a .243.

One thing to keep in mind; if you are hand loading lighter loads to lower velocities, choose a soft bullet like a plain Jane, Speer or Sierra soft point cup 'n core.
