Reducing recoil help

So, it sounds like you just like to shoot some clay targets and blow stuff up?? Since the recoil issue is on your shoulder a good quality recoil pad will help a lot. My preference is Kick-eez, but Decelerator and Limbsaver are also pretty good. Stick to clay target loads. Remember that the velocity and amount of lead you want to send out the end of the barrel have a direct relationship with the amount of recoil you will feel. Less velocity and or less lead = less recoil. Weight in or on the gun will also help. It sounds like you have been shoot heavy loads. I think the recoil pad and regular target loads will tame the gun down for you.

You nailed it at my range we can only shoot slugs so i was starting with remington reduced loads not too bad but still after a few was not what i would call comfy then i tried a couple regular winchester x slugs
then some federal magnum shocks which were absolutely insane completely unusable
all in 2 3/4 i would hate to see the damage from a 3 inch magnum slug no thanks
Like you said with a libsaver and target loads for clays will prob be no prob just looking for a slug solution so i can blast away a bit indoors

Ouch, you will develop a flinch if you keep that up. Get the lightest slug with the slowest velocity. I'd also look for another place to shoot ... clay targets are way more fun.

something is wrong here as no 2 3/4" shell out there should be causing discomfort after only 5 shots from a normal gun. i highly recommend meeting up with an experienced shooter to help you with fit and form to get your problem solved.

Any load if you don't hold it tight to your sholder is going to beat you up. I'm willing to bet your issue can be fixed as others have said, with proper form. Check out some youtube videos. Remember, practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent. It is always best to learn right early. Enjoy!

Yeah, before buying or adjusting anything with the gun, I'd say your form is the cause of the problem. Head to any clays shooting club and they can help you out.

I agree that your not holding the gun properly....tight to your shoulder, cheek tight to stock, trigger elbow down, lean into it and hit the trigger.
If you want to see what extreme kick is try pulling both triggers at the same time on a double barreled 10 gauge! If you're holding the gun properly you still won't get bruised but it might turn you sideways.

back in October my buddy wanted to site his shotgun in. he was shooting a mossberg 500 with a collapsable stock. We were shooting off a bench with a front rest. He shot 5 rounds of 3" slugs and was getting sore so I took over. After the 3rd shot I repositioned my left hand under the back of the stock for support. I did not realize that my hand was resting under the lever to collapse the stock. Click. boom, stock collapsed and drove the scope into my forehead, broke my safety glasses in half and left a nice crescent shape cut. hurt like a sumb*tch and bled pretty good to.

Ill admit its my first shotgun so form could be a contributing factor
but i did youtube it a bit prior and so i was pressing it tight to the shoulder and elbow down and in
prob didnt have the feet correct left bent right straight etc but i was leaning forward
Ill have another go and try and have someone experienced with shotgun spot me some pointers
i guess
I hope its just form would be the easiest fix
