A vintage Lyman or Marbles is the way to go, in my opinion. You can pick one up for around $150 if you shop around a little, maybe less if you're lucky. If the tang was drilled for a tang peep it would have been for the wrong sight as 94's in that era were drilled at the factory, I think. Personally I would leave it as is, there are too many old Winchesters tha thave been butchered up. The tang peep came with a longer bolt for mounting as well as a short one for the forward hole.
