PS Just a tip...don't know if you're new to BP, but get a synthetic ramrod for field/range use.

Someone explained it to me a while back - but what's the reason behind getting a synthetic rod? (other than eventually putting the wood rod through your hand)

Unbreakable..........................Harold ****try 80gr of FFG with a .50 TC Maxi-ball.Very accurate in my son's TC Hawken.My Renegade is in .54 and I bought a Green Mountain 1-70" ball barrel for it.Introduced it to a small mule buck this past fall with a home cast ball and 100gr dose of FFG.Lots of fun!

Nice..!!! Maybe a couple coats of carnauba wax or something similar to really bring out the nice grain.

Yes...if the grain isn't perfectly straight in the rod...all it takes is a little sideways pressure during a rushed reload, and bingo, your squired.

Nice finish on your .50 cal, did you do it your self? if so how?

Yes I did it myself. I used a chemical stripper to remove the old finish. Then I steamed out the dents and finished it with some linseed oil. I just bought a
.54 cal Renegade and I going to finish it the same way. I might end up selling the .50 since I have the .54 now.
