Refinished my Cooey 64 .22

I bought this rifle new in 1969 and for the last 15 years it's mostly sat in the safe. I hauled it out recently and decided it was pretty beat up and needed a face lift. I sanded everything down and painted the stock with Krylon tan and O.D.camo paint. All the metal was finished with Duplicolour low gloss black engine enamel and the plastic parts were done with Krylon low gloss black. As a final touch,I coated the whole thing with Krylon clear acrylic sealer.I was extremely pleased with the results.I'm going to have to start taking it to the range again. BTW can anybody tell me what scope rings to use? I have a set of the Burris custom .22 rings but they're too narrow to fit the receiver grooves.

Great job on the refinishing! Looks great :)

As for the scope rings. There are two main types of dovetails for the .22: 3/8" and 11mm. 3/8" is slightly smaller and is most likely what the burris rings were meant for. The cooey is probably an 11mm dovetail which requires slightly larger rings to fit on the dovetail. I don't have my cooey and more so I can't insure you that the dovetail is 11mm but I do know that on my CZ style which has an 11mm dovetail that the BKL 257 rings worked great (I would reccomend these rings).
 
The magazine in that doesn't look original. Where can I pick one up?
My son has the same rifle and I,m sure he would love a paint job like
that on his. You know, for a cheapy, these guns shoot pretty good.
My son has little problem shooting pop cans at 100 yds. with a $50
bushnell scope.

At least the savage 64 mags work, I should have taken a before picture of the one I have redone. It truley looked like it spend 30 years in the back of a tractor.

Mine has a FTE every mag or two I suspect it is related to a very heavy bolt pull, I have been contemplating coating the inside of the action with valve grinding paste to smooth out any internal rough spots then a polishing of internals and possibly cutting a loop or two off of the return spring.

Accuracy wise it is ok not spectacular but very usable.

Unless you luck out at a gunshow - you won't. They are the Holy Grail of the Cooey 64's.
