Refinished SVT-40

What did you do to remove the old finish? I just picked up a decent hex 91/30 with tsarist markings and all and it has a lousy dark flaking-in-my-hands shellac job that I want to strip off, as the blond wood underneath looks ok.

Don't need to buy spare mags when you own a dozen SVT's ;) I can take one SVT to the range and all the mags off all my others lol

And you don't melt your barrel? ;)

I shot my SVT last week, and even after ambling down range to change targets after several leisurely strings of fire and giving my belly a good itch, the barrel was still second degree burn hot. Thing was still above ambient temp when I got it home an hour later!

It'll get me flamed but, I sanded the old finish off by hand. Worked my way through the various grits for a nice smooth feel.

Slather plenty of Circa 1850 Furniture Stripper on with a paint brush, then use a brass brush to brush away the melted finish.

That stripper is good stuff but the brass brush might be a little abrasive for some woods like the wood on a Chinese SKS (which is as soft as alder). A nylon pot scrubber pad will work great for any stubborn areas. Strips the finish and leaves the wood alone. Use good gloves. :)
