Refinishing a Handgun affect the value of it ??

Yes.

Refinishing generally will reduce the value of a collectible pistol, it depends greatly on the circumstances and of course who the buyer is.

Obviously, check out what the piece would be worth as it is. Let's say your pistol is pretty common, has no provinence (ie it wasn't owned by somebody famous) and is in pretty rough shape. It's value as a collector piece is going to be pretty low. If you own it as a shooter, then reblueing will not make that much difference. On the other hand, if it's a valuable item, a collector prize, then refinishing is not a good idea at all.

it's generally NOT a good idea- even as late as the colt mk4/series 70 1911s are becoming collector's items- about the only gun that might benefit from a re-finish would be a heavily used or a mix-master or franken gun made up of parts- even "holster wear" is acceptable these days
i've got an original mk4 series 70( with the finger bushing) that has been modified back in the day, but that fact that it's NICKEL makes it valuable-

I didn't want to mention it until after the sale had finished but now that the transfer process has started I feel it's safe to say what pistol I'm looking at refinishing. I just picked up a HK P7 PSP from another member on the EE. The reason I am asking about refinishing it was because it seems to show signs of holster wear on the slide etc. it's nothing extreme but was curious if it was worth it to refinish it and if I decided to do so in the future how it would affect its value.

Thanx for the opinions everyone. Keep them coming.
