Refinishing a Mosin Crate

Hello everyone,

I know this is not exactly gunsmithing. But I am in the process of refinishing my second Mosin Crate. Is there any tips with refinishing the metal hardware specifically?

On my first one, I had a lot of difficulty with paint sticking to the metal latches after multiple use.

I sanded down to bare metal, to remove rust. Applied a general white primer. Then painted from color matched paint from Home Depot. Is there anything I can do differently?

Powder coat them with the same procedure used for powder cast coating bullets.

I just painted over the old hardware with the colour match paint I got from Home Hardware. I only painted the hardware that had to be modified after throwing away the top and replacing it with a new top with glass and stainless bars in it.

I had no problem with the paint sticking to the old paint on the hardware. It was a SVT40 crate but I don’t think that would make any difference.
