Refinishing my refinished K98 lol

Photobucket sucks so plz try this as the other pics werent showing. Markings are showing thru that WERE NOT visible the way it used to be. The lighter pics are the finished result. No idea what the marking is looks like RRC0 or RBCO or something. I would not even known they were there if this wasn't cleaned up.

Nice job on the stock refurb! Very nice looking rifle! I own a RC k98 myself. I’d never refinish or alter it since its the only one I have (so far) but I’d be happy having yours as well. If you’re happy with it, thats all that matters!

I used to care about people fixing RCs up but now I don’t. Have at it. Just don’t get tired of it in 6 months and want the same money. It probably looks better but technically is bubba’d. Haha.

Post some before and after. Some of the laminated look really good.

Same here. The RCs have "history", but it's a shi++y history. They are the bottom of the barrel compared to Czech or Yugo refurbs that are intended for front line use. The RCs are for ultimate last resort if WWII continued.

Oh this wood was #### LOL. it was rough and splintery a bit. I took an air hose to it to get the methylhydrate out of nooks and honestly dont ask me how but bubbles from the rinsing stage came out the side. But all sanded yes GASSSSSPS i had to sand it a bit the thing turned out nice. It actually revealed marks that were not visible in previous color! Trying to make out what they are. Its baby smooth and I'm completely happy ! Only thing i don't know is how to tell when the rifling is completely shot out?

Maybe you haven't seen #### wood ;)

A quick and easy way is to stick a cartridge/bullet in the muzzle end. If the bullet goes in all the way to the case mouth, your barrel is worn badly. If it stops 1/8" - 3/16" from the case mouth, you're ok. There are proper gauges to measure the amount of wear but this is like a go - nogo gauge. In any case, you did a nice job on the stock. The collector purists probably don't like it but what the heck, it's your gun, enjoy it.

Thx bud !!! Ya i dont ever plan on selling this. If it ages with use thats ok i wanted it nice and newish fir me. Im going to try that trick now.

The best way to sentence the bore on an old k98 is to forget any talk about gauges and go shoot it. If it prints nice groups, the gauge reading would only be academic anyhow.

I've shot many rifles that gauged badly and still shot well. There is more to it than rifling wear.
